About the Department

The Civil Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments in Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science started in 1985. It offers one under graduate programme with three specializations and three post graduate programmes in Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Environmental Engineering. The department has highly qualified and well experienced faculty who are involved in research in the areas of Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources Management etc. The department has successfully completed many research projects funded by government agencies and has very close interaction with many leading industries and research laboratories in areas relating to green materials, health monitoring, construction management etc.

Student Activities

Srivishnu V.S. and Roshan Raju won second place in the paper presentation competition ESTILUS at the National level technical extravaganza SMEATON'20 held at Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli

Mr. Pranav Patil of first year secured third place in the 50 metre backstroke at the 5th KESPA-HITS Tamil Nadu State level Inter School, Collegiate & Corporate Swimming Meet.

Mr. V. S. Srivishnu and Ms. Geetanjali Chandam won the Best Project award and Ms. P. Pooja and Mr. Yanchen Oinam were the recipients of the M. Vishveshvaraya award for Excellence in Civil Engineering and Best student award respectively at the National Conference and MEMSAAS 2020 organized by the Society of Aerospace and Mechanical Professionals at CSI Engineering College, Ooty.

Mr. Yanchen Oinam of final year completed a 3 week internship training programme in El Kadessia, Egypt as a Global Volunteer under AIESEC

Mr. Sravan & Mr. Nithish Kumar of Final year won the National Level Bentley Student Design Challenge 2019 competition from 2000 participants for the Seismic Analysis of a hexagonal shaped multistoried building using STAAD Pro.

Mr. Vimal Raj N. & Mr. Santhakumar T. (M.Tech Environmental Engineering) visited Universiti Malaysia Pahang from 23rd October to 20th November 2019 for their project work on hydrogen utilization and bio-oil production from algae in internal combustion engine

Students Visited AkshayaH Global School,Velachery to share about career opportunities in Civil Engineering and spread awareness about the need for Water Conservation

Srivishnu V. S. & Geetanjali Chandam, Final year Civil Engineering students visited TRIER University, Germany as part of their project on Analysis of Traffic flow and Safety for Sholinganallur junction by the DAAD research group.

Students explained experiments, models and basic concepts of Civil Engineering to school students during the Open House on 25th October 2019

Inauguration of Student Association Civil on 25th September 2019. Competitions and talks were conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners.
